Colour Matching Competition 2019

Do you have what it takes to be a colour matching champion? For more than two decades, the annual PPG Colour Matching Competition has given automotive spray painting apprentices the opportunity to hone their colour theory and colour matching practical skills by competing in regional and state competitions. These are usually held between June and September and limited spots are available so make sure you get your entry in early. Win through and there is the opportunity to represent your state in the national final – usually held in October. Along with the chance to be crowned as PPG Colour Matching Competition champion, you can also win cool prizes, such as gift vouchers, SATA spray equipment and MIRKA tools.

Who is eligible to enter?

Any apprentice currently attending a TAFE college or other students completing an equivalent automotive spray painting apprenticeship course are strongly encouraged to ‘have a go’.

Why enter?

The PPG Colour Matching Competition is a fun way to get valuable colour matching experience, along with bragging rights on your mates! Win through to the national final and you could get to travel to the host city and compete for the winner’s trophy, as well as cool prizes, such as gift vouchers, SATA spray equipment and MIRKA tools. Last but not least, because this is a recognised and respected industry award, doing well can be a great way to advance your career!

Competition format

Each contestant is provided with all the equipment and tinters they need and is given a set time period to match two colours – usually, one solid and one metallic / pearl. As well as colour matching skills, contestants are judged on safety, cleanliness and work practices.
