Refinish Technician Assistant

This course covers the basics for staff employed to assist lead painters or paint department management staff in the preparation of vehicles prior to the application of refinish systems. The programme is designed to help the assistant learn the proper steps, methods, and products needed to efficiently prepare the vehicle in support of a professionally trained painter. The course covers everything from initial washing of the vehicle through final sanding of the repair area or primer surfacer and masking.

Who Should Attend: Technician assistants or preparation staff members who support lead painters.


Course Objective: To acquaint technicians with the proper procedures,products, and processes needed to prepare vehicles for painting.

  • Safety
  • Primers & primer surfacers and the proper application
  • Proper cleaning of the vehicle prior to refinishing
  • Final sanding & cleaning steps before the car is painted
  • Using PPG wax & grease removers properly
  • Using all preparation materials efficiently
  • How to properly treat bare metal against rust
  • What a professional technician expects from an assistant
  • Efficient masking of vehicles
  • Hands-on work & demonstrations of proper procedures

Course Cost: $100+gst - Cost will cover material used and supplied food

 

Note: Students will receive a Certificate of Completion. Lunch and refreshments will also be provided. Students will be required to bring safety boots, spray overalls and if possible air-fed masks.
